What we do

Barnardos changes children’s lives:

Children have amazing abilities to cope, but the wrong start can affect the direction of their whole lives, permanently impacting on their education, well-being, ability to make friends, and the chance to become a fulfilled adult.

We bring hope into situations where hope is lost.

The wrong start can trap children in a never-ending spiral of poverty and disadvantage. As every child is unique, we respond to the needs of the individual child and family, by providing practical and professional supports.

Barnardos works directly with over 5500 children and families.

With more than 40 community based centres, national services, and links with partner organisations, we devise programmes to help as many children and their families as we can.

The Early Years: Barnardos Pre-School groups enable children to become socialised and prepare them to get the most out of school. We teach them about routine, stability, and responsibility. We make sure they get at least one nutritious meal a day, and we also make sure they have the space to play and have fun.

The Family: We work with the entire family, giving emotional and practical support and advice, enabling the families to cope better in the future.

After School: We run high-quality programmes that support children in primary school, the transition from primary to secondary school, and liaise with home school officers to encourage children to complete their education.

Family Welfare Conference: A pioneering service that helps families deal with their issues and find their own solutions together.

Childhood is what makes us into the adults we become. Please help now.

"Our future lies with today's youth, and as a young adult, I would like to think that someone is looking out for our future. Barnardos does exactly that... I am honoured to be an ambassador for Barnardos, and am constantly humbled by their dedication. "
