Your Unwanted Christmas Gift can make a Difference to a Child’s life!
3rd January 2012 – Barnardos, Ireland’s leading children’s charity today launched its Unwanted Christmas Gifts Appeal, to encourage people to donate their unwanted Christmas presents to Barnardos Shops, and help change a child’s life for the better today!
Speaking about the appeal, Bernadette Harrington, Barnardos Shops Manager, said; “Each Christmas thousands of unwanted gifts are exchanged between loved ones and many of them are left to become dust collectors! So instead of stuffing them away in the back of a wardrobe or up in an attic, why not use them to make a difference? Goods donated to a Barnardos shop will be sold to raise funds for our vital work with over 6,000 vulnerable children all over Ireland.”
Barnardos has six shops located in Cork, Wexford, Carlow, Clondalkin, Rathmines and Dun Laoghaire. The charity shops accept a wide range of items including clothes, books, DVDs, bric-a-brac, shoes and accessories. So this January as the decorations get packed away for next year, why not drop off any unwanted gift to one of Barnardos shops, locations can be found on www.barnardos.ie
Bernadette also spoke of the decrease in donations; “Due to the economic downturn and the increase of door-to-door rag trade collections, we have seen a marked decrease in donations. Our shops accept donations all year round and urgently need donations so we can continue to raise much needed funds through the sale of quality goods at a fraction of the price!”
She concluded; “Any donations to our shops will help us get one step closer to reaching our goal of making Ireland the best place in the world to be a child.”
