Barnardos' Tomorrow's Child Conference

Tomorrow's Child 2008

Background
It was decided that 2008 provided an opportunity to look comprehensively at all of the issues affecting children's lives and to review the themes that would have the biggest impact on them over the next 10 years. To this end we undertook the Tomorrow's Child project which comprised commissioning research and conducting a trends analysis of children's lives, in addition to hosting an international conference.

Campaign Dates:
2008

 What we did

  • The Tomorrow's Child research report examined key issues such as family formation, communities, services, employment and work options, education, leisure, social risk and the impact of technological innovation.
  • The report used the most up to date information from national and international sources and evidence-based forecasts to anticipate what children's lives will be like and how they will inform policy recommendations.
  • The 2-day conference brought together key international speakers and all major players working on children's issues across the range of sectors, including major statutory, political, acedemic and non-profit stakeholders.
  • Also an opportunity to showcase some innovative projects that Barnardos provides.

So what happened?

  • The conference was very well received and successfully brought together all those working across the child and youth sectors, helping to build networks and share experiences.
  • The research found and predictions made are continuously informing Barnardos policy and ongoing work on our key strategic areas.
