Children's Budget 2008

'The Children's Budget' is a legacy of our 'Seven Steps to Ending Child Poverty' campaign. Every year since we have produced a children's budget - our aim is simple: to put the child at the centre of the budgetary process and to focus those areas that can make a critical difference to the quality of children's lives.  We provided an overall analysis of what children needed from the Budget as well as one page briefings specifically directed at relevant Government departments.

Campaign updates

November 2007 - We ensured that every politician in the Dail received a copy of our 'Children's Budget'. We made a verbal presentation of its key points to the Minister for Social and Family Affairs's annual forum with particular emphasis on the need for increased income to families on low incomes whether on welfare or in work.

Final Campaign Update

December 2007 - On the day of the actual Budget, Barnardos' analysis featured in both national and local print and broadcast media.  The Budget, however, was the first of the new Governments and it proved to be a conservative one with few real gains for children.
