Losing weight and gaining euros!

At this stage of the year many people have already forgotten their New Year's resolutions. That's not the case for Barnardos Chief Executive, Fergus Finlay and Barnardos Fundraising Director, Ruth Guy. This year, they are taking their resolutions very, very seriously!

Fergus, Ruth and some other Barnardos staff are on a weight loss campaign with a difference - while losing the pounds, they are competing to gain lots and lots of euros and do something really positive for children in Ireland!

Thanks to Crossfit training in Sandyford, Fergus and Ruth are getting the best start and donning the runners for regular sessions in the gym. They are sharing their progress and photos on Facebook. You can keep up to date by joining here 'Losers for Barnardos'.

Update from Fergus, Monday, March 1st:

"No weight loss last week, despite a four-day attack of the dreaded lurgies. Missed two sessions at the gym - didn't help. Total loss since 11th January 1 stone 4 lbs, and 2 inches on what I laughingly call my waist. Now the going gets tough - target for March another 8 pounds."

Update from Fergus, Monday February 15th:

"One stone down this morning! But they tell me that's the easy bit, and the next two will be slower and harder. The good news is that during warm-up the other day, for the first time in 59 years, I touched my toes! I always thought I had short hamstrings, but that's a myth, apparently, beloved of fat and lazy men."

Fergus has also shared his experience with readers of the Irish Examiner - "Pity me, I'm now trying to keep up with the sixth fittest man in Europe

You can sponsor Fergus and Ruth using the links above and send a message of support. All money raised will go directly to fund the work Barnardos does with children and families in Ireland.
