Ceol CD for Barnardos

 Ceol CD for Barnardos

Top Irish acts including Mundy, The Swell Season, The Coronas and Bell X1 come together to perform some of their most popular songs 'as Gaeilge' to support Barnardos on Seachtain Na Gaeilge's Ceol 2010 CD.  Intrigued?

CEOL '10: SÚIL SIAR, the highly anticipated Irish language compilation album produced by Seachtain na Gaeilge is available now in record stores and online at iTunes, with all proceeds going to Barnardos.

CEOL is an innovative & imaginative approach to promote our native language through music. Not content with storming up the charts with their hits sung in English, Irish musicians have taken up the invitation in their droves from Seachtain na Gaeilge to chime out their tunes 'as Gaeilge'. Five previous critically acclaimed albums have been produced with the album Ceol ‘08 hitting No.1 in the Irish charts.

This year CEOL '10 - Súil Siar, takes a look back at some of the hugely popular songs and artists that have translated their tunes for CEOL over the past five years, including:  The Swell Season performing their Oscar winning song ‘Falling Slowly'; legendry Scottish singer-songwriter Eddi Reader with her hit ‘Perfect' as well as The Coronas, Bell X1, Gemma Hayes, Luan Parle, Mundy, The Saw Doctors, Kíla and many more.

Ceol '10 available from all good music outlets from 5th March and for download on iTunes NOW!

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2010 takes places between the 5th - 17th March 2010:  http://www.snag.ie/

Bobby McDermott's Seven Day Sahara Race for Barnardos

With four marathons behind him, Bobby McDermott's greatest challenge is still to come. On April 2nd Bobby will set out on, what is widely regarded to be the toughest foot race on the planet, the Marathon des Sables, a grueling 155 mile (250km) pursuit across the Sahara desert in southern Morocco. Self-professed lunatic and masochist, Bobby is putting his limbs on the line in the most punishing way in aid of Barnardos, Ireland's leading children's charity.

The distance covered over the Sahara sands is the equivalent of almost six regular marathons but with mid-day temperatures soaring above 50C, then plummeting to below freezing overnight, an ankle-wrenching variety of landscapes and everything needed for the seven day slog strapped to the competitors r back, the challenge facing Bobby amounts to so much more.

Over the last 12 months, Bobby has been training hard to meet the sterling test facing him, running two of his four marathons with a 6kg bag over his shoulders.

So far Bobby has raised a massive €6,500, every cent of which will go directly to fund the services that Barnardos provides for children and families in Ireland.
Bobby is covering all his own costs for his participation in the world famous race, so every cent donated will go directly to support the work that Barnardos does with children and families all over Ireland. "I'm hoping to raise over €10,000 for Barnardos so any donations that people can make, big or small will go towards this target. I'd like to say a massive thank you to those who have already supported me."

To send a message of support to Bobby and make a donation, you can visit Barnardos online sponsorship section on their website. http://www.barnardos.ie/sponsorship/sponsor-a-participant/event.html  or alternatively call Liz on 01-7080480

Write Up My Street with Londis

Our new Londis “Write up my street” storybook has now been launched. Proceeds go to Barnardos Children’s Charity. "Write up my Street" is a promotional initiative from Londis which encourages young people to bring their community to life with a story. Endorsed by acclaimed Irish novelist, Sarah Webb, this campaign encourages young people to focus on what's best about their particular community, whether it's the local annual duck race or the support of friends and neighbours.

"From the thoughtful and heartfelt reality of a community coming together to support a family during a difficult time, to the wonderfully vivid portrayal of a make believe dragon community, this book gives us a wonderful insight in to the power of community through the eyes of Ireland's young people".

The book is only €6.99 and is available exclusively from all Londis stores. The collection of short stories was written by children from the age of 5 to 18 years of age.

Write Up My Street

Londis would like to thank the schools all over Ireland who participated in our writing competition and every teacher who nurtured a story.

We can provide you with tent cards for all the tables at your wedding reception informing your guests about your donation to Barnardos on their behalf. We would recommend 3-4 cards per table.
