Obviously no two cases are the same, but at Barnardos the children we deal with do have one thing in common. It is that they could otherwise be forgotten by society. We want to live in an Ireland where no child gets left behind and we will do everything in our power to make this happen. Our aim is to inject hope into what sometimes seems to be a hopeless situation.

The effects of disadvantage can last a lifetime. It's true that children have amazing abilities to cope, but the wrong start can affect the direction of their whole lives. It can have a permanent impact on their education and their well-being. It can affect their ability to make friends, to get the most from their education and to make the progress every child should. It can trap them in the never-ending spiral of poverty and disappointment.

In Barnardos we believe that all children deserve to be supported to reach their potential. Many children will achieve this without any need for Barnardos’ services, but for those who do not have the supportive family and community network around them, we are there to provide services that compensate for that gap at both a local and a national level.

Local Support

Barnardos has over 40 Barnardos Centres around the country located at the heart of communities. In these centres we provide a number of direct family support services. Central Services

At the national level, we also provide have a number of services that support children and families at differnt times in their lives - challenging times of bereavement or law proceedings, or a when families need  support and information, about childcare or adoption for example.  Click here to find out more.
