Without the generosity of volunteers we would not be able to reach the children who need our support. Volunteers are involved right across Barnardos - from our Board of Directors, to our children's services to our network of charity shops.
Simply by giving of your time you will make a difference in a vulnerable child's life.
Volunteering give you the chance to:
Barnardos offers our volunteers:
There are a number of ways that you can volunteer with Barnardos:
Barnardos operates family support centres across Ireland aimed at families who are experiencing difficulties. Each centre provides services that are based on local needs. Volunteers work alongside professional staff to run services such as toy libraries, parent and toddler groups, after-school projects and summer programmes.
This unique service is for children who have lost someone close to them. Volunteers - who receive full training - support the professional team by operating the daily telephone helpline.
Volunteers provide one-to-one reading help during the school year to a child experiencing reading difficulties.
The money raised in our shops helps fund our work with vulnerable children. Barnardos shops sell high quality second-hand and brand new goods. Volunteers assist with sorting donated stock and preparing it for sale, customer sales and service, security and shop display. In addition to working with us all year around, we need extra volunteers to support us at key times such as Christmas.
There are lots of ways you can help Barnardos raise funds. You can do anything from bucket collections, supporting events and helping with administration. We know that not everyone can commit to volunteering on an on-going or long-terms baisis so we have a register of time limited volunteers. Once you register with us we will contact you to help us with one-off events or specific appeals. Please contact us to join this register.
A Barnardos helper group is a group of people (at least three) who want to support and promote Barnardos in their local area. The groups would organise and run a fundraising event once a year for Barnardos. The groups can do anything from bag packing, running a dinner dance, organising a raffle or giving a talk locally about Barnardos' work. Contact us to find out more.
Volunteers also support the running of our offices and administration.
Staff from different companies can help Barnardos simply by getting together for a team day challenge - for example painting and decorating our services or digging and planting a garden.
Please note that all volunteers who work directly with children are Garda vetted.
If you have any questions or queries about volunteering with Barnardos please contact us.
