Job Purpose

To provide a safe and efficient transport service to children and families attending Barnardos’ services.

Core Job Requirements

Provide a transport service to children and families attending Barnardos services in conjunction with other staff.
To provide transport when needed to children & families attending Barnardos Finglas Early Years’ service.
To provide transport when needed on occasion for the region.
To ensure the safety of all passages ensuring seat belts are worn at all times, and ensure safe behaviour on the bus and safe practice going to and from the bus.
Drive carefully at all times observing the rules of the road and all relevant legislation and regulations.
Under no circumstances be under the influence of toxic substances.
To ensure the vehicle is maintained in a clean and road worthy condition and servicing is carried out on a regular basis.
To maintain appropriate records of all issues in relation to the use and maintenance of the vehicle.
To communicate with children and families in a friendly and appropriate manner at all times, taking into consideration the confidential nature of Barnardos’ work.
To be vigilant to any concerns regarding the protection and welfare of children and to bring them to the attention of your designated person in a timely manner, in keeping with the Barnardos Child Protection policy.
When not required for driving duties to assist in the work of the services, carrying out duties as agreed with the Line Manager.

Requirements specific to the post

To ensure all First Aid equipment on the vehicle is up to date and in date at all times, and replenished as required.
To partake in the Certificate in Professional Competence Training for Professional Bus and Truck Drivers as required.
To prepare the Bus and all supporting paperwork for the annual test requirements under the regulations of the DOE.
To ensure all Vehicle checks are conducted and that the Bus is maintained in line with the Barnardos Transport Policy.
This role will also involve general maintenance in the service, including light gardening and general runs required by the service.

To show reasonable flexibility in relation to hours of attendance to meet the needs of the work. Work during unsocial hours may be required.

Identify training needs with your line manager and participate in training opportunities appropriate to the role.
To be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or local Health and Safety Officer.
To be vigilant to any concerns regarding the protection and welfare of children and to bring them to the attention of the Barnardos Designated Person in a timely manner, in keeping with the Barnardos Child Protection policies.
To participate in the efficient flow of information within the organisation by sharing and seeking information as appropriate.
To undertake other duties as may be requested by the line manager from time to time.
To undertake your work in a manner that is friendly, flexible and informal.

Experience

12 months’ experience of driving a D vehicle or Public Service vehicle essential

Qualifications

D Driving Licence (Disclosure of any driving offences is required)
