What does the Fundraising Department do?

Barnardos fundraising department is responsible for raising voluntary income to support Barnardos services in Ireland in the following ways:

  • Individuals
  • Campaigns and Events
  • Corporate Fundraising

What will the Data Executive do?

They will provide comprehensive analysis, reporting and target segmentation on all Barnardos fundraising activities with a view to maintaining donor loyalty, reducing attrition and increasing voluntary income for Barnardos’ services for vulnerable children and families.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Donor Marketing, your role is to provide comprehensive analysis, reporting and target segmentation on all fundraising activities with a view to maintaining donor loyalty, reducing attrition and increasing voluntary income for Barnardos’ services for vulnerable children and families.

Core Job Requirements

  • Ownership of the internal processes and best practice in the use of fundraising database and training of fundraising staff on the use of Raiser’s Edge database in these processes. Rasier’s Edge experience essential.
  • Technical Management of Raiser’s Edge: Implementing upgrades, analysing and integrating new features and plug-ins, technical contact with Blackbaud.
  • Development of Raiser’s Edge and other related systems to meet the emerging requirements in Barnardos for analysis of all our supporter databases.
  • Working with IT and the IT Project Manager on the implementation of Barnardos new CRM system in 2020 – an exciting and ambitious new project that needs specialist data integrity expertise.
  • Perform complex data analysis of the data in Raiser’s Edge database and other data sets using Excel and other BI tools to provide reports on trends to drive marketing and fundraising decisions.
  • Progressing the use of Fundraising data within the organisation.
  • Liaise with external agencies and manage agency relationships where necessary.
  • Keep key stakeholders informed of all fundraising database activity on a timely basis.
  • Keep up-to-date on developments within the charity sector and best practice measures.
  • Plan and implement other fundraising activities, as assigned.
  • Deliver activities to target and within budget.
  • Work with Fundraising team and Fundraising Manager in achieving overall targets and goals.
  • General administration duties and dealing with face-to-face, telephone and written enquiries, requests and ad-hoc donations.

Person Specification

Personal attributes

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills combined with sound judgment are required to facilitate work with a wide range of individuals and groups.
  • Self-starter with high motivation and the ability to work flexibly on own initiative and as part of a team to achieve goals within agreed timeframes.
  • Ability to analyse campaign results using statistical techniques and provide reports and trends to management.
  • Demonstrated strong intellectual, analytical and thinking skills.

Knowledge and Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a comparable role, ideally with Raisers Edge.
  • Knowledge of and experience with reporting packages such as Excel 2013, Microsoft Power BI and databases such as Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Proven organisational capability and high levels of personal effectiveness. The person is expected to handle a varied and diverse workload to meet deadlines while ensuring accuracy, timeliness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to present findings to and articulate complex ideas to internal and external stakeholders in a user friendly format.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvements to existing process and solutions where possible.
  • Knowledge and experience of the requirements of the Not-for-Profit sector.
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analysing datasets (Excel, R, Python etc.)



  • Relevant third level qualification eg. computer studies, data analytics etc with proven capability and technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques. 

The post holder is initially assigned to work in our National Office, Dublin 8 but may be required in the future to work in other locations in the Dublin area in line with organisational needs.
