What does our Communications Team do?

The Communications team works with all teams across Barnardos to co-ordinate all external communications – media, digital and campaigns.

We manage Barnardos press office and digital channels. We work to increase awareness and understanding of Barnardos work with children and families.

What is our Overall Aim?

We aim to increase understanding and awareness of Barnardos work with children and families, to engage and grow support for Barnardos.

What will the Digital and Content Lead do?

They will play an important role within our Communications team by leading the digital and content functions and delivering on the objectives of Barnardos Organisational Strategy.

They will have management responsibility for the workload of digital team members.

Who does the Communications Team currently consist of?

Our communications team currently consists of five, the other roles are; a Communications Manager, a Communications Executive, a Digital Executive and a Digital Communications Assistant.

Post: Digital and Content Lead
Location: National Office, Dublin 8 - with travel required from time to time
Responsible to: Communications Manager
Works with: Communications and interacts with all other departments across Barnardos

 

Job Purpose

Play a key role within Barnardos Communications team to lead the digital and content functions and deliver on the objectives of Barnardos Organisational Strategy

Core Job Requirements

The Digital and Content Lead will:

  • Develop digital and content strategies within and alongside the organisational strategy.
  • Manage the digital and content functions in the development, planning and implementation of organisational strategy.
  • Deliver Barnardos digital fundraising strategy.
  • Oversee the development of Barnardos digital channels and how we tell the story of our work.
    • Developing content to communicate Barnardos work with children and families.
    • A digital focus on growing our supporter base.
    • a digital focus on driving income
    • An evaluation programme for same.
  • Support the team to meet the growing demand for digital and content development in Barnardos.
  • Ensure reporting structures are in place to deliver the timely evaluation of all campaigns.
  • Identify and provide guidance on best practice use of our digital channels.
  • Develop KPI's for the team to ensure they are motivated to achieve and exceed them.
  • Closely analyse external market.
  • Oversee Digital Team members in the areas of:
    • Digital fundraising campaigns and strategy
    • Email marketing
    • Content development
    • Web development, intranet, microsites
    • Supporter engagement
    • Online shop
    • Brand development
    • Data protection
    • Building digital skills across organisation
    • Measurement and analysis 

Other Responsibilities Include

  • To supervise staff, students and volunteers where necessary and to ensure they are aware of all Barnardos policies and compile placement reports as appropriate.
  • Management responsibility for the workload of digital team members.

Experience
  • Minimum 3 years' experience of strategic work on web development, social media, digital marketing or related area
  • Proven ability in the development and implementation of digital strategy and content development
  • Experience of leading a digital and content function highly desirable
  • Experience in the voluntary sector an advantage
Qualifications
  • Relevant 3rd level qualification in a related field essential

Flexibility to travel nationally in line with the needs of the role.

The postholder is initially assigned to work in the National Office, Dublin 8 but may be required in the future to work in other locations in the Dublin area in line with organisational needs
