What will the Direct Recruitment team do?

This team will be signing up new donors for Barnardos. This work takes place in private sites and door to door with the aim of increasing Barnardos fundraising income.

What do Direct Recruitment Fundraisers do?

Successful applicants will be trained to represent Barnardos professionally with a view to approach members of the public, to ask to speak to them, inform them of the work of Barnardos and ask if they would like to sign up to become a Barnardos donor.

Employees will have ipads with them and donors will input their own bank account details onto the ipad confidentially. Employees will have a minimum number of new donors to recruit daily and weekly. Detailed inductions and training will be given.

Post: Direct Recruitment Fundraiser

Work will take place in private sites such as shopping centres and conferences and Door to Door. Nationwide travel required. Requirement to attend for work regularly in Christchurch Square, Dublin 8.

Private Sites (Shopping Centres, Exhibitions, Supermarkets etc.):
09.30 – 18.00, 10.30 – 19.00 or 11.30 – 20.00.

Door to Door: 11.:30 – 20:00 daily

Responsible to: Mentor, Team Leader, and Head of Direct Recruitment
Works with: Direct Recruitment Team, Fundraising Team and members of the public


Job Purpose

To work as part of the Direct Recruitment team with a view to signing new donors for Barnardos. This work will take place in private sites, on the street and door to door with the aim of increasing Barnardos fundraising income

Core Job Requirements

  • To approach members of the public, ask to speak with them, inform them of the work of Barnardos and ask if they would like to sign up to become a Barnardos donor.
  • If they would like to sign up to become a donor then ask them to enter their bank account and sort code onto our database and to sign to confirm that Barnardos can deduct monies from their bank account.
  • To seek to subscribe a minimum of one donor in any given hour.
  • Apply the coaching and training given to you.
  • To represent Barnardos positively and interact professionally with the public at all times.
  • To comply at all times with the standards set out within all handbooks, manuals, and policies with particular reference to the Quality policy and to comply with the Code of Practice of the Irish Fundraising Forum for Direct Recruitment.
  • Any other duties which you are assigned by your Mentor/ Team Leader or Head of Direct Recruitment.

Requirements of all Barnardos staff

  • Commitment to the purpose of Barnardos and to work within the values, policies and procedures of the organisation and in the context of current legislation and regulations.
  • To participate in regular supervision with your line manager.
  • To actively participate in team and staff meetings and team reviews/ evaluations and to contribute to the development of the Direct Recruitment team and within Barnardos as a whole.
  • To report any area of concern to your line manager in a timely manner.
  • To be vigilant to any concerns regarding the protection and welfare of children and to bring them to the attention of your designated person in a timely manner, in keeping with the Barnardos Child Protection policy.
  • To show reasonable flexibility in relation to hours of attendance to meet the needs of the work. Work during unsocial hours may be required.
  • Have a flexible approach to the work in response to organisational change, development and review of best practice.
  • Participate in and engage with a performance management programme.
  • Identify training needs with your line manager and participate in training opportunities appropriate to the role.
  • To be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or Health & Safety Officer.
  • To participate in the efficient flow of information within the organisation by sharing and seeking information as appropriate.
  • To undertake other duties as may be requested by the line manager from time to time.

Person Specification

Personal Attributes

  • Ability to speak and write fluently in English
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Professional approach when representing Barnardos
  • Self-motivated to a high degree.
  • Willing to adopt a flexible approach to work and working hours, including willingness to undertake evening and weekend (especially Saturday) work
  • Ability to communicate complex topics in an accessible and engaging manner aimed at different audiences
  • Good team player as well as capable of working on own initiative
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability and willingness to travel

    No previous experience or qualifications necessary for this role however you will be expected to take on board, learn, and apply instructions and training.
