Child Protection Training
Barnardos Child Protection aims to support professionals working with children and families, by providing high quality training experiences which enhance participant’s knowledge, skills and expertise, promoting best practice and the highest standards in service delivery.

Children First, Child Protection Training
Overview
Children First 2017 states clearly that child protection is everyone’s responsibility. This training is suitable for anyone working directly with children and young people.
This aim of this training is to equip participants with the skills and knowledge that are necessary to deal with child protection issues in line with Children First 2017 guidelines, Children First Act 2015 and the Child Care Act 1991.
Method & Materials
This training can be delivered as 1 full day or split over 2 days, with 2 x 3 hours sessions:
10am-1pm or 2pm-5pm.
Group Size
16 Particpants per training
The workshop will involve presentation, videos and question & answers. Participants receive a Certificate of Attendance
Outcomes
Following the workshop participants will be able to:
- Recognise their legal responsibilities in relation to Child Protection
- Explain the definitions of abuse
- Identify the signs and indicators of abuse and neglect
- Describe how to respond to a disclosure
- Identify the main elements of the:
- Child protection & welfare report form
- Retrospective abuse report form
Child Protection Training for Designated Liaison Persons
Overview
This training will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to effectively perform the role of Designated Liaison Person.
Participants must have completed one day Children First Child Protection Training in the past 3 years. A strong working knowledge of Children First 2017 is required. This training is based on current legislation, national guidance and best practice outlined in Children First 2017, the Children First Act 2015 and the Child Care Act 1991.

This training can be delivered as 1 full day or
split over 2 days, with 2 x 3 hours sessions:
10am-1pm or 2pm-5pm
Group Size:
14 Participants per training
The course will involve presentation, case studies and group exercises. Participants receive a Certificate of Attendance.
Outcomes
Following the workshop participants will be able to:
- Recognise their legal responsibilities in relation to child protection
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse
- Explain the role of the designated liaison person in supporting staff and managing child protection situations
- Demonstrate how to speak with parents
effectively when child protection concerns arise - Describe how to deal with allegations of abuse against staff members
- Identify best practice in relation to child protection recording and reporting
- State organisational responsibilities re; child safeguarding
