Description of Project:

Barnardos project in Knocknaheeny provides a targetted early intervention and family support service to children & families in Knocknaheeny. We work in partnership with parents, building on family strengths so that children, young people and their families can enjoy their childhood and reach their full potential.

Outline of Volunteers Tasks and Responsibilities:

A volunteer with interest and experience in DIY and gardening is required for the Brighter Futures, Knocknaheeny service to assist with small jobs in the project, which will include:

  • Help with maintenance of project building, including cleaning of gutters
  • Minor repairs
  • Gardening – small and easy to maintain garden.
  • Help general tidying of any rubbish/debris in garden and surrounding area.
  • General small scale painting.

Training and Support Plan:

  • The Brighter Futures, Knocknaheeny Service will provide induction, and follow up training with volunteer, as required.
  • Where possible the volunteer will attend training as provided centrally in Barnardos, and where linkages are available locally to other training providers
  • Supervised by project staff as assigned by Project Leader.

Time Commitment:

Flexible arrangements regarding time to facilitate volunteer while also meeting the needs of our service. Project services operate Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm only.

  • Friendly and polite
  • Patience to deal with the various requests that can arise
  • Flexibility
  • Awareness of the importance of confidentiality in relation to service users
  • Gets on well with children
