A four session course for adopted adults with Barnardos Post Adoption Service, running 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd October 2020.

People who have been adopted as children often look for the opportunity to connect with, and hear from, others who have been through some of the same unique experiences. However, these opportunities can be hard to come by, and Barnardos Post Adoption Service is delighted to continue our long running course Exploring Adoption to create this opportunity.

Wondering about birth family history, thinking about searching for your birth family, or figuring out how to combine new relationships with birth family, are areas that those who weren’t adopted may not completely understand. Meeting other adopted people can help to figure out ways to manage some of these dilemmas.

This four-session course is an opportunity to share experiences with others and learn new information.

The sessions will explore topics such as:

  • How it feels to be adopted and what role it has played in your life
  • Managing the search for your birth family including planning contact
  • Birth and adoptive family perspectives and understanding the personal and external factors that can affect relationships
  • Outcomes of search for birth family and the dilemmas and joys it can bring

The course will take place on four Thursdays in October: 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd October 2020.

The venue will allow for social distancing for participants.

The workshops will be facilitated by Barnardos Post adoption staff and an adopted adult
