Circle of Security Training Programme - online

01 March 2023 9:45am - 11:45am Online

At times, all parents feel lost or without a clue as to what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security Parenting™ programme is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened. This course is for parents of adopted children aged 0 to 8 years.

The Circle of Security Parenting Programme is an evidence based parenting programme, offered especially to adoptive parents by Barnardos Post Adoption Service. This free course is run over eight sessions and is designed to strengthen and enrich parent/child relationships. The group is limited to 8 adoptive parents and couples must register separately. This specific Circle of Security course is for parents of young adopted children age 0-8.

The course will take place online on Wednesdays from 9:45am - 11:45 am, on the following dates: 1st March, 8th March, 15th March, 22nd March, 29th March, 12th April, 19th April and 26th April 2023.

The programme will be facilitated by Kasia Purcell and Grace Deegan. Both Kasia and Grace are child and adolescent therapists working with the Barnardos Post Adoption team and are trained Circle of Security Facilitators.

The programme will help to:

  • Understand your child's emotional world by learning to read their emotional needs
  • Support your child's ability to successfully manage emotions
  • Enhance the development of your child's self esteem
  • Honour your innate wisdom and desire for your child to be secure

All sessions must be attended as each week builds on the next. Should you miss a session and wish to complete the course it will be necessary to organize a catch up session with the facilitator prior to the next scheduled session. This can only be facilitated once.

The commitment required is to:

  •  Attend for 1.30 to 2 hours per week for the group session with other parents
  •  Observe and reflect on your time with your child in between sessions
  •  Practise different ways of interacting with your child in between sessions

The course provides a space for reflection on parenting and sharing these reflections with other parents. It will be a closed group providing for safety and confidentiality. To take part, you will need a safe uninterrupted space with good internet connectivity. The format of the engagement on the course requires that you have your video camera on so that the group can build a relationship with each other.
