Barnardos’ Young People’s Ambassador David Rawle, best known for his starring role in SKY TV’s Moone Boy, is calling on the Irish public to support Barnardos’ National Collection Day today, Friday 16th September. Buckets for Barnardos will see collectors take to the streets in towns and cities across the country today, raising vital funds for Barnardos’ work with children and families. If you don’t see a Barnardos collector on the streets today, please text BARNARDOS to 50300 to donate €4* to Barnardos.

“Today one in nine Irish children lives in consistent poverty - that’s three children in every classroom not having enough to eat, a warm home or a warm winter coat,” said David Rawle. “As a secondary school student myself, I can only imagine how difficult it must be for children in this situation to concentrate and get on well in school.”

“A key focus of Barnardos’ work is to support children with their education. The funds raised from today’s National Collection will all go to Barnardos work in its Early Years centres for children aged two to five years who need additional supports to prepare them to start primary school. Barnardos volunteers will be out all over the country today collecting for Barnardos and raising vital funds for their work. Please donate what you can or text BARNARDOS to 50300 to donate €4* to help their important work,” said David Rawle.

Mary Gamble, Fundraising Manager, Barnardos, said “Over the past year, Barnardos has worked with 13,100 children and families, more than ever before in our history. We really need your support to help us to continue this work. Today, on our national collection day, your spare change can help give hope to children. Please give what you can to Barnardos collectors, who will be shaking Buckets for Barnardos on the streets of Ireland’s towns and cities today.”

Barnardos needs your help. Please give what you can to Barnardos collectors in your local area. If you don’t see a Barnardos collector on the streets today, please text BARNARDOS to 50300 to donate €4* to Barnardos.
