Spring Courses for Adopted Adults and Birth Mothers
Barnardos Post Adoption Service is celebrating its 40th birthday this Spring. The service has been providing a helpline to those affected by adoption since 1977. Thousands of adopted adults, birth family members and adoptive parents have been provided with support and advice since the service opened its doors. A service is provided to intercountry adopted children and their parents.
Barnardos also provides group support to adopted adults and birth mothers- many of whom are trying to trace each other or who have had an outcome to their search. Support courses for both adopted adults and birth mothers are starting in April 2017.

Birth Mother’s Group
Was your son or daughter placed for adoption in the past? Would it help to talk about it? Barnardos Post Adoption Service runs confidential meetings for women whose children have been adopted. These meetings are an opportunity to talk about experiences in the past and perhaps to prepare for contact with a now adult son or daughter. Barnardos provides provide a safe, absolutely private space to talk about the adoption and to seek practical help and advice.
Some women may have met their adopted child/adult already and would like support around the outcome of the meeting. Others may need support around such issues as telling others about the adoption of a son/daughter.
The meetings are run as a course over six sessions.
Many women have found these meetings to be of invaluable assistance and support. The service is independent and completely confidential. There is no charge to attend the course but donations are welcome to cover costs.
