1,000 Gift Boxes Distributed to Families Affected by the Housing Crisis this Christmas

CarePlus Pharmacy, Ireland's fastest growing pharmacy chain, has teamed up with Barnardos to help children affected by homelessness to give their parents a gift this Christmas.

1,000 gift sets are being donated by CarePlus Pharmacy as part of "Operation Mam and Dad" to give a little something extra on Christmas morning to families who have been affected by the housing crisis.

Over 300 gift sets for adults will be distributed nationwide by Barnardos, as part of their family and parent support programmes. The remainder will be gifts for children, which are being dispatched by CarePlus Pharmacy and Barnardos to the North Pole for distribution by Santa Claus himself.

Niamh Lynch, Commercial Director of CarePlus Pharmacy said; "We cannot imagine how difficult it is to live without a permanent home, but sadly there are hundreds of families who face that prospect this Christmas. As a group of community pharmacies, we realise that it's important to look after the whole family. Every parent deserves a little something for all the hard work they do for their children. We hope that 'Operation Mam and Dad' will add a little extra magic on Christmas morning."

Fergus Finlay, Chief Executive of Barnardos, said: "We know that far too many children will live in emergency accommodation this Christmas, and we will work to provide support to many of these families. Every child deserves to experience the magic of Christmas and getting a present for Mam and Dad is a part of that. We're delighted to be working alongside CarePlus Pharmacy on 'Operation Mam and Dad' to ensure the children and families we work with will get the Christmas they deserve."

CarePlus Pharmacy recently announced a significant expansion to 51 outlets across Ireland, creating 70 new jobs. The chain is also in advanced negotiations with a number of national pharmacy operators, with significant new partnerships expected to be announced in early 2018.
