Barnardos is celebrating Universal Children's Day by talking to children about what it's like to be a child in 2017. Having gathered the views of a wide range of children, Barnardos has released a short video illustrating 'the best thing about being a child in 2017' and 'the things that could make their childhood better' as told by children themselves. The organisation is encouraging people to share the video and to ask the children in their own lives what they think.
Fergus Finlay, CEO, Barnardos said: "Today is about celebrating children and the special time that is childhood. As illustrated in our video, children have remarkable insight and wisdom and, at times, a delightfully simple view of the world. We can learn so much by simply listening to children, and children gain so much when they feel heard and valued. What better way to celebrate Universal Children's Day than to listen to the children in our lives."
Separately, Barnardos has been collaborating with a number of organisations that work with children to raise awareness about the celebration of Universal Children's Day. Individuals and organisations across the country are encouraged to get involved on this special day of celebration for children. June Tinsley, Head of Advocacy, Barnardos said: "It has been great to see the appetite of so many organisations joining together to mark Universal Children' Day. It is something to build on, year on year, as we as a society celebrate children, their uniqueness, their curiosity and their potential. It is also a time to reflect on the childhood experiences that have shaped our lives and how we as a society must make a commitment to do whatever it takes to ensure that every child is supported to thrive."
