Applegreen raise over half a million for Barnardos

Barnardos are immensely grateful to the staff and customers of Applegreen across Ireland who have raised an inspiring €527,904 over the last two years to support some of the youngest children we are working with through our Early Years Programmes.

Quality early learning during a child's first five years is a key factor affecting their education and future success. Did you know that by the start of school, children in low-income households may be one-and-a-half years behind their middle-class counterparts in language development, vocabulary and communication skills?

Through the Applegreen Charitable Fund's investment in vital early intervention and learning programmes they have directly transformed the lives of 200 children and their families enabling them to participate in a year-long intensive, quality support programmes. With every purchase made through Applegreen stores in 2016 and 2017 and every event organised by staff in their local communities they have ensured that children born into social, economic or educational disadvantage will receive the necessary support to reach their potential and experience a brighter future.

Barnardos Early Years and School Readiness Programmes provide children with the vital education, development, care and nutrition support needed to get them school ready and ensure they learn and thrive alongside their peers.

We are so incredibly proud to work with Applegreen, their staff and their customers to make a real and lasting improvement in the lives of children across Ireland.
