Following on from Olivia’s generous birthday donation in April this year, her four year old sister Pippa decided she wanted to donate her birthday too!
Mum Nikki had the idea after seeing how much stuff was given at the average birthday party – way too much stuff for any small child to use. She said they just didn’t really appreciate it, or remember who had given what, and it also caused so much clutter at home. But most of all, she wanted her daughters to think about other children and see the value of helping others. They chose Barnardos because the girls really liked the idea of helping other children.
They asked friends and family to buy a pair of pyjamas for a child that Barnardos works with, instead of a gift for Pippa. People really took to the idea, and they ended up with about 30 pairs of pyjamas, plus about 25 more lovely things – fluffy slippers, cosy socks, onesies, dressing gowns, snuggly blankets. Nikki contacted Dunnes Stores and asked if they’d like to help, and they kindly donated another 20 pairs of pyjamas and some bed linen. So over 70 children will get new bed clothes thanks to the generosity and thoughtfulness of this family.
Both Olivia and Pippa have now donated a birthday each and they’re working on ideas for their next birthday. Nikki is going to talk to Olivia’s school about spreading the idea to other parents.
Thank you so much Nikki, Olivia and birthday girl Pippa - you're all superstars!
