Barnardos is calling on the Irish public to support their national collection day, kindly supported by Dell, taking place in locations throughout Ireland today. The charity works with over 15,300 children and families by providing support when they need it most and all donations given today will go towards the charity’s work in ending the nightmare that is child poverty. To help, please give what you can when you see Barnardos collectors on the street today or donate online at www.barnardos.ie.
Poverty affects every aspect of a child’s life, which has short and long-term consequences on their health, education outcomes and life chances. Barnardos centres provide a lifeline to children - giving them a safe space, a friendly face and proven programmes to help them escape the vicious cycle of poverty and improve their lives, no matter their circumstance.
Barnardos CEO, Fergus Finlay, said: “Children living in poverty spend their childhood on the margins, excluded from many things that are considered basics in society, the things that every little boy and girl deserve. We know that tonight, 1 in 9 children will go to bed hungry because they are living in poverty, this quite simply isn’t good enough. Barnardos believes that every child deserves the same opportunities and possibilities, to be able to look towards a brighter future. Please give what you can on September 14th and help us provide this future for our most vulnerable children in society”.
Barnardos Director of Fundraising, Mary Gamble, said: “Each year on our National Collection Day I am both humbled and amazed by the level of support in communities across the country. Our aim is to end the nightmare that is child poverty and it is only with your support that we will be able to do so. Please give what you can on Barnardos National Collection Day, kindly supported by Dell, on September 14th.”
Denis Lucey, Site Leader, Dell EMC Cherrywood Campus, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Barnardos for the second year on their National Collection Day. Our Dell team members have been busy organising fundraisers internally in the run up to today and have been looking forward to getting out on the streets of Cork, Dublin and Limerick with their buckets to raise as much as they can for Barnardos. It’s great to see our team show such enthusiasm for our charity partner and that really speaks to the amazing work Barnardos does. We’re hoping people come out on force to support Barnardos this Friday whatever way they can.”
By supporting Barnardos National Collection Day, kindly supported by Dell on Friday 14th September, you can help end the nightmare that is child poverty. Please give what you can to Barnardos collectors in your local area. If you don’t see a Barnardos collector on the street today, please donate online at www.barnardos.ie
