| Programme aims: | The Adolescents Programme aims to help parents to connect with and build good relationships with their teenage children while also being firm and influential in their lives. |
| Resources used: | Two DVDs which contain footage of role-play scenes and interviews with parents, including young people about what it is like to be a teenager and their views about what makes families run smoothly. A comprehensive facilitators manual that contains the full text of the DVDs, extensive background information, a full guide on how to prepare and run each session of the course, detailed group exercises, along with handouts and homework assignments for participants, as well as specific information on tackling the most common teenager problems and issues. Authors: The material was written and developed by Dr. John Sharry (Social Worker and Psychotherapist) & Professor Carol Fitzpatrick (Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist). The Parents Plus Programmes have been developed in partnership with parents and children who have attended the courses and in consultation with the wider multi-disciplinary professional team at the Mater Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. |
