Training and Consultancy
What We Can Do for You
We offer you access to a range of high quality and innovative training programmes, which are crucial to strengthen skills in the childcare sector and to benefit children.
We in Barnardos offer you this training in a wide variety of areas, to practitioners, parents, carers and all people working with children. All of our training for the childcare sector is conducted within the context of Siolta, the National Quality Framework.
Public training events
Each year we provide a programme of public events to suit the current needs of childcare professionals. These events cover many topical areas and if you work with children between the ages of 0-18 they are suitable for you, whether you work in an early years service or in support services such as childcare, community care, youth services and family support services. Parents may also benefit from some of these events.
Tailored training events for professionals
When your service needs a particular issue addressed, call or email us and we can discuss a tailored programme to suit you and your staff's needs. We can help address many training needs, for example: Supporting Children's Positive Behaviour; Child Protection; Understanding Bullying Issues; Key Working; Involving Fathers; Teamwork. We have a team of experienced trainers who can facilitate high quality training for you and your staff.
This service provides an opportunity for organisations to avail of one-to-one guidance and advice on a variety of issues related to direct work with children or on management issues.
Internet Safety & Cyberbullying
Barnardos provides interactive workshops for children, teachers and parents that deliver up-to-date information on preventing and responding to cyberbullying. Workshops for primary (60 minutes) and secondary (80 minutes) are highly participative and suited to class sized groups. Students consider online safety, pro-social behaviour and appropriate ways to respond to bullying.
Teachers' collaborative workshops are approximately 80 minutes and offer staff the opportunity to consider what they and the school can do to create a positive school ethos, recognise online bullying and respond appropriately as needed.
Parents' workshops last 60 minutes and offer parents an opportunity to consider how they can increase their child's online safety and respond to any instances of negative online behaviour. Parents are provided with take home information on social media and parental controls.
