26.07.23 Today’s Mental Health Commission report on Child and Adolescent Mental Health services is a shocking indictment of the state of child and adolescent mental health services in the country.
It is vital that the Government acts quickly on the recommendations set out in the report and develops a timeline for implementation, in order to reassure parents and immediately improve services for children and young people with mental health issues.
Urgent action needs to be taken to address the variance in CAMHS acceptance rates across the country, to reduce waiting periods for assessments and to ensure greater provision and access to mental health supports for children and young people who fail to reach CAMHS thresholds.
We know at Barnardos that childhood lasts a lifetime – the longer children and young people go without help, the bigger the impact it has on their current and future wellbeing and development.
