22 August 2019 – Barnardos, with the kind support of Dell Technologies along with Olympic legend and Barnardos Ambassador, Marian Heffernan today launched their local call for volunteers in Cork. The children’s charity, who work with more than 17,600 children each year and has three centres in Cork, needs valuable volunteers for their National Collection Day, kindly supported by Dell, on September 13th

Barnardos Ambassador Marian Heffernan spoke at the launch: “It’s an honour to be here today and lend my support to the call out for volunteers on Barnardos’ National Collection day, taking place September 13th. Barnardos has three centres in Cork, providing vital support to children and parents experiencing difficulties that many of us would never encounter. From providing the best foundation in Early Years to supporting parents within the home, Barnardos works tirelessly to provide brighter futures for children in Cork. I urge you to join us as a volunteer this September.”

Barnardos CEO Suzanne Connolly said: “Barnardos National Collection Day is always a very special day for us, not least because we see the mammoth support we have in communities across the country. Each year the people of Cork have rallied and stepped out to support the children and families we work with across the county, with many volunteers returning time and again to enjoy the feel-good factor that volunteering can bring. Each and every volunteer has made a difference, and can continue to do so by joining us again on September 13th. We’re also so grateful to our sponsor, Dell Technologies, who have supported us tirelessly ensuring the success of our National Collection day grows year on year. Join us on September 13th and help provide a brighter future for children in communities throughout Cork www.barnardos.ie/buckets

Information about Barnardos in Cork:

  • Barnardos have three centres here in Cork providing services such as Breakfast and After School Clubs and intensive early intervention and family support services for some of the most disadvantaged children living not far from our offices.
  • Right now there is a child in Cork who may not have enough food to eat, who may not have a comfortable or safe place to sleep tonight or who may be dealing with very adult issues due to a parent’s poor mental health or substance addiction.
  • They are scared and lonely and in need of the help of Barnardos. But by signing up to support on Friday 13th of September you can help Barnardos to be there for that child and thousands more.
