Volunteer TLC KIDZ & Empower Kids Programme Assistant

Description of Project:

The TLC KIDZ programme is a group work programme for children who have been exposed to woman abuse and is run as a concurrent group work programme for children and their mothers. The group process helps to facilitate the opportunity for healing. Children are given support to process and understand the hurting that has happened in their family. The service provided is nurturing, non-judgemental and well-informed.

Volunteer Title: 

Volunteer TLC KIDZ & Empower Kids Programme Assistant

Volunteers Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • To support the safe transport of children to and from the TLC KIDZ programme by acting as the second responsible adult on the vehicle.
  • To help support the functioning of the TLC KIDZ programme, including organising food/equipment as directed by facilitators on a weekly basis.
  • To support the transition of children returning home after what may have been an emotionally difficult group and responding to their feelings with compassion, understanding, and respect.
  • To report back any issues to the TLC KIDZ coordinator arising with children or their mothers during pick-ups or drop-offs.

Additional Responsibilities for the Empower Kids Participation Role:

  • To encourage and support children to express their views, preferences, and ideas in a safe, age-appropriate and trauma-informed way.
  • To assist facilitators in delivering participation-based activities (e.g., creative arts, group games, reflective exercises).

Training and Support Plan:

  • Initial induction will be provided by the TLC KIDZ Coordinator, covering programme content, domestic abuse impact, child protection, and participation principles.
  • The TLC KIDZ Coordinator and the local area volunteer will agree a supervision plan based on the volunteer’s level of involvement in the TLC KIDZ and Empower Kids programmes.

Time Commitment:

  • Commitment to 1 Morning/Afternoon per week during the 13-week programme, that may involve a late evening.
  • Willingness to undergo training as required.
  • Scheduled sessions with children and young people may take place either in the morning or afternoon or full day (during holiday periods) on an ad‑hoc basis.
  • There may also be occasional trips to Dublin to support children in attending national meetings.

Person Specification/Desirable Qualities :

  • Ability to respond age-appropriately to children’s needs in a warm and engaging manner.
  • A genuine capacity to engage with children and families with compassion, empathy, and kindness, creating a safe and supportive environment for all.
