Barnardos Cost of Living 2025 report reveals almost half of families going without or cutting down on basic essentials

Barnardos commissioned Amárach Research to carry out a nationally representative survey with 1,000 parents/guardians with children aged under 18 in their care. The survey was carried out in May this year. We discussed cost of living issues directly with parents in Barnardos services across the country and spoke to staff across our services to get their views on cost of living issues facing the families we support.

Barnardos welcomes Tusla’s report into the review of Special Care published today

Barnardos Guardian ad Litem (GAL) service welcomes Tusla’s latest report into the review of Special Care published today.

This report highlights the need for mandated interagency collaboration, increased funding for the establishment of a centre of excellence ‘Special Care’ facility as well as the development of a range of residential services to meet the complex needs of this very vulnerable group of young people.

These residential units would include high support units to prevent some young people moving into Special Care as well as offering support to those discharged from Special Care.
