Current Volunteering Opportunities at Barnardos

Barnardos volunteers play a key part in the delivery of our services. In addition, they raise funds; provide office support, and a variety of professional expertise at all levels in the organisation to help us achieve better outcomes for children. Without their dedication and generosity, we could not do the work we do.

Simply by giving of your time you will make a difference in a vulnerable child’s life and will be helping us to achieve our vision – an Ireland where childhood is valued and all children and young people are cherished equally.

Volunteer for Fundraising Events

We are always looking for volunteers to help us with fundraising efforts. We know that not everyone can commit to volunteering on an ongoing basis so we have a register for weekend and evening volunteering opportunities on a more flexible basis.

Roots of Empathy Instructors – Waterford, Tipperary and Cork

Roots of Empathy Instructors – Waterford, Tipperary and Cork Barnardos are currently seeking Volunteer Roots of Empathy Instructors, for the 2018/19 academic year, for a number of primary schools based in Waterford City, Co. Tipperary and Co. Cork.

Volunteer Shop Assistant Dalkey, Co Dublin

Barnardos are delighted to be opening a new shop soon in the village of Dalkey, Co Dublin. For this new shop we are looking for volunteers who have an interest in or experience in retail; who have a flair for fashion; who like to meet new people, and who enjoy working a part of a team. Full training and support will be given to the volunteers. Volunteers are needed from Monday to Saturday, days and hours are flexible (minimum of 4 hours per week). When you work in a Barnardos Shop you are making an important contribution to the work we do with vulnerable children across the country, as the money raised in our shops helps fund our services.

Volunteer Fashion & Stock Assistant, Dublin 15

Fashion and Stock Assistant Volunteers assist us in our warehouse, located in Ballycoolin, Dublin 15, with the management of brand new stock, which is donated to us, to be sold through the Barnardos Shops. Volunteers for our warehouse need to have an interest in or experience in stock management, have a flair for fashion, an eye for what sells and enjoy working a part of a team. The warehouse operates Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, flexible volunteer hours are available.

Volunteer Van Helper - Dublin 15

Barnardos has 7 shops throughout Ireland and one central warehouse based in Ballycoolin, Dublin 15. The aim of our network of shops is to sell donated stock (both brand new and preloved) to raise funds which will be used to provide support services to children and families nationwide who require it. A volunteer van helper is required to assist the Barnardos Transport Supervisor who works from our central warehouse, to drop off Barnardos clothing bags to households and collect the filled bags of donated stock at a later date. The van also, from time to time, collects and distribute stock between our 7 shops nationwide. The volunteer needs to be available for 1 full day each week, Monday to Friday.

First Friends Volunteer Dún Laoghaire

Volunteer with First Friends Programme based in Mounttown Community Facility, Lower Mounttown Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin. The Service runs every Friday from 10am to 12pm but with set up and tidy up the time for volunteering will be 9.00 – 1.00pm. The aim of the group is to: provide a safe welcoming environment for children and their parents to play together, enhance the quality of attachments between children and their parents, improve the participating parents understanding of child development issues using the PEEP programme, promote positive parenting skills, and to link children and families in with other support services where appropriate.
