The Different Parts of Me workshop provides a safe, fun and supportive environment for young teens to explore how adoption fits into all the other aspects of themselves. Group activities delivered through the mediums of art and games to encourage the participants to feel at ease and open up in a secure setting with other teens with similar experiences. This workshop is delivered in two parts, 2 hours in the morning with a 1.5 hour break for lunch and 2 hours in the afternoon. (Lunch not provided)
This group aims
- to boost young people’s self-esteem by developing a greater understanding of adoption
- explore and identify unique and shared feelings that many young people have about adoption
- explore some of the questions they might have about themselves as adoptees
- provide tools on how to respond when faced with uncomfortable/unwanted questions about their background
- help develop their sense of self by identifying their interests, talents and characteristics and exploring whether these came from their birth or forever families.
