  • Before you get started, we encourage you to read our Fundraising Guidelines to make sure your event runs smoothly and is compliant and safe.
  • Decide what you would like to do. Be creative but keep it simple. If it’s an event you would enjoy, others will too.
  • Not sure what to do? Check out our Fundraising Ideas.
  • Ask yourself – Consider venue, volunteers, tickets, permits, advertising and prizes.
  • Let us know what you’re doing so we can support and advise you.
  • You can complete our Register your Interest form (below) or contact our Fundraising Team on [email protected].
  • We can provide you with a Letter of Authorisation as well as materials for your event such as balloons, posters, collection buckets etc.
  • Set the date of your event and get organised!
  • Make a timeline and recruit help with planning and running your event. 
  • We recommend that you set up an online fundraiser to collect funds securely and simply. We recommend platforms such as iDonate or Just Giving .
  • It is important that you get the message out about what you are doing and how people can support your efforts so allow yourself plenty of time to advertise.

  • Do make sure to tag Barnardos on social media!
  • Thank your supporters, volunteers, venue and sponsors – let them know how your event went.
  • Gather all funds raised and transfer to Barnardos as soon as possible. We will provide you with the details.
  • If you have set up an online fundraiser, funds will automatically be transferred to Barnardos.

Fundraising ideas

You may already know the type of fundraising event you would like to host for Barnardos but if you need some help, here are some fun ideas for in-person and virtual fundraisers to inspire you and get you started.

  • Bake Sale or Bake Off – always a winner at work, home or in your local club.
  • Run a raffle – this can be done virtually or in-person. Approach local businesses for support in donating prizes and ask friends, colleagues, community and family to buy tickets.
  • Get active – organise a sponsored walk, run, cycle, skipathon or Boot Camp in your area.
  • Quiz, Race, Bingo or Comedy Night – another fun virtual or in-person event. Host a raffle too and boost your fundraising.
  • Take on a personal challenge – this could be a marathon or an endurance challenge. 
  • Car Boot Sale – clear out those garage/shed/attic corners and sell off those items you no longer need.
  • Coffee Morning – whether in person or virtually, this is a great way to get to know your neighbours or catch up with friends and family.
  • Sports Tournament – get your local sports club involved and hold a golf, tennis, Gaelic, hurling or soccer tournament.
