Fundraising Step-by-Step

Fundraising Step-by-Step

Once you have decided what you want to do, you’re ready to start planning! Before you get started, we encourage you to read our Fundraising Guidelines to make sure your event runs smoothly and is compliant and safe.

Then follow our step-by-step guide to make your fundraising event planning as easy as possible.

Whether you organise a large or small fundraiser, every cent you raise helps to make a real and lasting difference to vulnerable children and their families across Ireland.

Here is how your fundraising helps our work.

Contact Jo at [email protected] or call 01 453 0355 to receive a fundraising pack, support and guidance to help make your event a success.

Our donors and supporters are an incredibly important part of Barnardos. They ensure that we can continue to give the children and families we work with a brighter, happier future. Without their generosity and creativity, we could not do what we do. Here are just some of their stories to inspire you: Inspiring Stories

  • Before you get started, we encourage you to read our Fundraising Guidelines to make sure your event runs smoothly and is compliant and safe.
  • Decide what you would like to do. Be creative but keep it simple. If it’s an event you would enjoy, others will too.
  • Not sure what to do? Check out our Fundraising Ideas.
  • Ask yourself – Consider venue, volunteers, tickets, permits, advertising and prizes.
  • Let us know what you’re doing so we can support and advise you.
  • You can complete our Register your Interest form (below) or contact our Fundraising Team on [email protected].
  • We can provide you with a Letter of Authorisation as well as materials for your event such as balloons, posters, collection buckets etc.
  • Set the date of your event and get organised!
  • Make a timeline and recruit help with planning and running your event. Our handy Fundraising Checklist will keep you on track.
  • We recommend that you set up an online fundraiser to collect funds securely and simply. We recommend platforms such as iDonate or Just Giving .
  • It is important that you get the message out about what you are doing and how people can support your efforts so allow yourself plenty of time to advertise.
  • Check out our Promote your Fundraiser guide for helpful tips on how to generate publicity. Here’s a sample press release.
  • Do make sure to tag Barnardos on social media!
  • Thank your supporters, volunteers, venue and sponsors – let them know how your event went.
  • Gather all funds raised and transfer to Barnardos as soon as possible. We will provide you with the details.
  • If you have set up an online fundraiser, funds will automatically be transferred to Barnardos.

Remember! It is important to let us know what you are planning so we can advise and give you our support.
