Barnardos Gardening Volunteer, Dublin 1
Description of Service:
Barnardos Buckingham Street is the home of Bereavement, Post Adoption and Birth History services, for children, families and adults.
We are seeking a volunteer with an interest and experience in gardening and caring for an outdoor environment. We hope that the volunteer would be available to come in once or twice a week over the Summer (June until mid-September) to help with the maintenance of our outdoor area as follows:
- Gardening – maintaining, weeding and watering various planted areas including trees, grasses, flowers and herbs in raised beds, pots and planters.
- Help with general tidying of any rubbish/leaf debris in the outdoor area.

- Gardening Volunteer with Barnardos, 23/24 Buckingham Street Dublin 1.
Description of Project:
- Summer Garden Volunteer needed (June – mid September 2025).
Outline of Volunteers Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Gardening – maintaining, weeding and watering various planted areas including trees, grasses, flowers and herbs in raised beds, pots and planters.
- Help with general tidying of any rubbish/leaf debris in the outdoor area.
Training and Support Plan:
- Barnardos Buckingham Street will provide induction, and follow up training with volunteer, as required.
- Supervised by Project Leader with delegation to Project Staff as assigned by Project Leader.
Time Commitment:
- Flexible arrangements regarding time to facilitate volunteer while also meeting the needs of our service – minimum of 2-3 hours per week. Project services operate Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm only.
Person Specification:
- Friendly and polite.
- Patience to deal with the various requests that can arise.
- Flexibility.
- Awareness of importance of confidentiality in relation to service users.
- Gets on well with children.
- Gardening skills an advantage.
As this volunteer role is a physical role the person should be in good health and know how to use the correct manual handling techniques when lifting, completing tasks etc.
