What’s the Role and Service?

The Project Coordinator oversees the delivery of the Early Bird Service (Breakfast Club) and the Afterschool Service located on the Southside Education Campus.  The Southside Education Campus incorporates two DEIS schools (Le Chéile National School and Gaelscoil Sheoirse Clancy) and a Child and Family Centre. The campus is based on an extended school service model and aims to maximise the contributions of all the stakeholders, which includes the Department of Education and social support through agencies primarily funded by Tusla. In addition, the co-ordinator also oversees Group Work delivery across local primary schools on the Southside of the city.

What will my day to day look like?

In this role, you will ensure the development, management, delivery and review of Barnardos Special Needs Service. You will be responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for the management, development and delivery of Barnardos work with children and families within your area of responsibility
  • Oversee and develop the Early Bird and Afterschool Service on the Southside Education Campus under the supervision of the Project Leader
  • Ensure effective referral, assessment, planning and review processes are in place to meet the needs of children and families participating in the service
  • Work collaboratively with all the agencies/schools involved in these services ensuring that they are in line with the Tusla, School Age Childcare regulations
  • Take on additional duties in the absence of the Project Leader, for example to be the Child Protection Designated Liaison Person for the family support project
  • Identify recruitment needs for the service, review and propose job descriptions and person specifications
  • Undertake the duties of Designated Liaison Person for the project under the Children First National Guidelines for the Protection and Welfare of Children
  • Ensure all Barnardos staff that you line manage, students,’ volunteers, and Community Employment (CE) participants receive regular and professional supervision
  • Participate in the overall development of good practice models within the organisation

What experience do I need?

  • A minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience and demonstrable management capacity essential experience of a lead or supervisory role is highly desirable
  • Experience of implementing interventions for both young children with additional needs and their parents / families is essential
  • Ability planning, implementing and reviewing programmes with children and/or families is essential
  • Experience of working in partnership with other agencies is highly desirable
  • Flexibility and adaptability is essential for this post

Do I need a qualification?

Yes, to be considered for this role you will hold a recognised third level practice qualification[1] (minimum Level 7 on the QQI) in one of the following is essential:

  • Education / Social Care / Social Work / Youth Work / Psychology / Psychotherapy / Counselling / Psychiatric Nursing

This includes those currently in the process of registration under CORU’s transitional arrangements (grandparenting route). Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria but have not yet completed registration are encouraged to apply.
