What’s the Role and Service?
Early childhood home visiting is an evidenced based service delivery strategy that helps children and families thrive and paves the way to a healthier, safer and successful future for families. It connects parents to be, and parents of young children with a home visitor who guides them through the early stages of raising a family. Roscrea, Co Tipperary has been identified as a pilot site for a Home Visiting Service as part of the Government’s commitment to providing universal supports to all children in Ireland as outlined in National policies such as Better Outcomes, Brighter Futures (2015), First 5 – A Whole of Government Strategy for Parents and Babies (2019) and Supporting Parents: A National Model of Parenting Support Services (2022). Home visiting results in a range of evidence-based outcomes. Home visiting has been proven to:

What will my day to day look like?
In this role you will develop strong and supportive families and communities through the delivery of an identified Home Visiting Programme that responds to the needs of children under the age of 5 years and their families, working in partnership with families and other organisational, community and voluntary bodies. You will be responsible for the following:
- Assess the needs of the children and the families engaging with the project.
- Plan, implement and review programmes for children/young people/carers/families based on an assessment of their individual and group needs.
- Be vigilant for signs of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, neglect and any concerns regarding the welfare of children. To record concerns promptly and accurately. To consult with the Designated Person and take appropriate action in accordance with Barnardos Child Protection policy.
- Work with children/young people/carers/families in a variety of ways, including group work, individual work and family work in their own homes.
- Key work individual children/young people/carers/families in order to meet their needs and to advocate on their behalf.
- Liaise effectively with families and other statutory, community and voluntary bodies and to attend and contribute to reviews and case conferences as required.
- Work in partnership with other Barnardos services to best meet the needs of children and families by collaborating resources with planned interventions targeting groups/families of shared need.
- Participate in Home Visiting Services Collective Forum

What experience do I need?
- A minimum of 2 years post qualification experience of working with vulnerable children and families.
- Experience of planning, implementing and reviewing programmes with children and/or families.
- An understanding of and commitment to universal and targeted parenting supports in the home.
- Knowledge of child development in under 5’s and ability to promote child wellbeing.
- Strong focus on early intervention and prevention and the ability to build on parent understanding of and ability to meet their child’s needs.
- Knowledge and experience of a trauma informed approach to working with children and families.
- Experience of delivering home based parenting programmes.
- Knowledge and understanding of Infant Mental Health.
Do I need a qualification?
Yes, to be considered for this role you will hold a recognised third level practice qualification[1] (minimum Level 7 on the NFQ) in one of the following:
Early Childhood Care and Education / Social Care / Education / Social Work / Youth Work or related discipline (Nursing, Psychology, Early Years Education).
Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with CORU as a Social Care Worker. This includes those currently in the process of registration under CORU’s transitional arrangements (grandparenting route). Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria but have not yet completed registration are encouraged to apply. However, you will be required to provide proof of registration or evidence you have initiated the application process.

A full driving licence and access to the use of a car suitably insured vehicle essential.
The post-holder is initially assigned to work in the Dublin West area but may be required in the future to work in other project(s) in the Dublin area, in line with organisational needs.
