- The range and nature of environmental influences that impact on the holistic development of children.
- Some of the main theories of child development.
- What is meant by holistic development – the course identifies and examines the factors to consider when preparing an environment that supports this development.
- Frameworks, Aistear and Síolta, that set out how quality can be achieved in early years environments, and relevant Irish legislation.
- The importance of consultation with children, observations, assessment and review in relation to learning environments.
Section 2 explores:
- Practical ways early years educators can prepare and maintain indoor and outdoor environments designed to develop and stimulate children’s senses.
- The stimulation balance and children’s differences in tolerance to stimulation and the need for quiet spaces.
- Ways to involves parents and the wider community in environments for children.
