Barnardos welcome the appointment of Mr Anthony Douglas CBE to work with the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth towards the establishment of the long awaited Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) National Service.
Barnardos looks forward to the time where each child involved in care proceedings before the courts will benefit from a quality and regulated GAL service.
As childhood lasts a lifetime, it is essential that children have a meaningful say in all matters that affect them and that there is a strong and informed independent view of their welfare and their interests.
We look forward to contributing to the ongoing process, as the State’s longest standing and largest service provider for vulnerable children in Ireland.
