Jacinta
Jacinta is a single Mammy, whose partner John died tragically a few years ago. Her son Evan, age 7, started coming to Barnardos Children’s Bereavement Service when Jacinta, and Evan’s teachers, noticed he had become withdrawn from class and had stopped talking to his friends and his Mam.
In Barnardos, Evan was in a safe place to talk about Dad. He admitted to his project worker Tess, that he didn’t want to make his Mam even sadder by talking about Dad. Jacinta didn’t realise that Evan could hear her crying at night.
With the help of Barnardos they have both been able to talk more and more about John together. There has been tears and laughter throughout the sessions.
Since then, every year at Christmas, Evan makes a beautiful bauble for the tree with a note about Dad inside it, creating a new connection to his Dad that can be used every year.
